New Transporter wins double at What Car? Van and Commercial Vehicle Awards 2026

Now into its seventh generation, the Transporter remains a versatile workhorse, with a 1.28-tonne payload and 6.8m3 load volume. The recently added Commerce Pro S trim further expands the Transporter range, providing impressive flexibility of choice to suit virtually any requirements. Judges named the Transporter ‘Best Medium Van’ after being impressed by the vehicle’s day-to-day practicality and driver comfort. Judges also highlighted Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ comprehensive aftercare package, its 5+ Promise, which comprises five services – three services for electric models – three MOTs, a five-year Warranty and five years’ Roadside Assistance, at no extra cost.1

Commenting on the award, Steve Huntingford, Editor at What Car?, said: “The latest Volkswagen Transporter is an outstanding all-rounder within the medium van market. Its car-based underpinnings give it a level of driving comfort and day-to-day usability that rivals can't match, yet these strengths don't come at the expense of load-carrying ability. Sealing the Transporter's win is its comprehensive aftercare package, which includes five services, MOT cover and roadside assistance. That provides a level of cost certainty and downtime protection which is hugely reassuring for businesses and sole traders.”

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ e-Transporter also came out on top, to take home ‘Best Medium Electric Van’. Available in both 136PS or 218PS power outputs, the e-Transporter offers a generous payload of up to 1,000kg and 2,300kg towing capacity.

Steve Huntingford added: “Electric vans are an increasingly common sight in the medium van sector, but the new Volkswagen e-Transporter is the best choice, mixing green credentials with an impressive payload. It's also one of the best medium vans to drive, because it's quieter and more composed than rivals. And, as with the regular Transporter, owners have the reassurance of a comprehensive aftercare package.”

Eve Tyers, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “As we continue to expand the ever-popular Transporter line-up, we’re really pleased to see the range recognised for its versatility and reliability as a workhorse, with a Volkswagen van perfectly suited, no matter the job.”

Breeze Motor Company Ltd, Breeze (Southampton) Ltd and Breeze Motorcycles Limited is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No. 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Breeze Motor Company Ltd, Breeze (Southampton) Ltd and Breeze Motorcycles Limited to act as a credit broker, not a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders, and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a lender on our panel, which includes lenders of vehicle manufacturers. We have commercial arrangements with lenders and credit brokers which are likely to influence who we introduce you to. We are not an independent financial adviser and don’t give you any advice or recommendations. It is your choice whether you enter into any finance agreement.

Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked to the franchise offering you the vehicle. They will usually offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions (but we do not guarantee they do). If they are unable to offer finance, we then seek to introduce you to someone else on our panel. We will usually receive a commission for your introduction. This will be either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you choose.

Lenders of vehicle manufacturers may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will tell you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receiving this commission. The exact amount of commission will be confirmed before you sign your finance agreement.

All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18s or over. Guarantees may be required.
