Volkswagen Golf has been named the Best Hybrid
The Volkswagen Golf has been named the Best Hybrid at this year’s Autocar Awards.
Judges described how the car performs just as anyone would expect of a Golf, but that its official WLTP electric range of 88 miles means many owners who can charge at home will rarely have to fill up with petrol. They also highlighted the car’s low benefit-in-kind tax rate, which currently sits at just six per cent.
In its latest in-depth review of the car, Autocar adds: “The Golf eHybrid could genuinely deliver lasting change to your motoring habits as one of the most versatile cars on sale today – and all from a position of calm reassurance.”
Georgia Sharpe, Product Manager for the Golf at Volkswagen UK, said: “Autocar is one of the most respected motoring titles – not just in the UK but around the world. Its awards recognise the industry’s highest achievers, so we can feel justifiably proud to have received this honour for the Golf eHybrid.”
Three Golf eHybrid models are currently available in the UK, each combining a frugal 1.5 TSI engine with a 19.7 kWh (net) battery: the Golf Match and Style, plus the performance-oriented GTE. The Match and Style deliver up to 204 PS of power while emitting just six grammes of CO2 per kilometre. The sporty GTE offers a punchy 272 PS of power – enough to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.6 seconds – alongside a similarly low CO2 emissions figure of just seven grammes per kilometre. All three can be charged at home at up to 11 kW AC, and up to 40 kW DC at public charge points.
