Volkswagen Golf GTI named Hot Hatch of the Year by Auto Express
The Golf GTI was named Hot Hatch of the Year at a ceremony in London in front of an audience of UK motoring industry executives. This prestigious award, from the UK’s biggest-selling weekly motoring magazine, is the latest in a long list of accolades stretching back 50 years to 1976, when the first Golf GTI went on sale.
Now in its eighth generation, the car continues to excite motorists around the world. The latest version of this icon – the limited-run Golf GTI EDITION 50, launched to mark the 50th anniversary – is the fastest and most powerful production Golf GTI built to date, and in May this year it set a new record for front-wheel drive production vehicles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The 325 PS anniversary model completed the legendary 20.83-kilometre circuit in just over 7 mins 44 secs.
