Volkswagen ID.4 in Poole Dorset

Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV is a cracker. Beautifully composed with the latest assistance systems, it’s available with a 52kWh or 77kWh battery with up to 320-miles of range. The 52kWh battery is offered with 148PS (Pure) and 170PS (Pure Performance), while the 77kWh variant has 174PS (Pro) or 204PS (Pro Performance). The GTX and GTX Max top the range with 299PS. A 5-80% charge takes 38 minutes at 110kW, and you can charge at home up to 7.2kW (around 28-miles of range added per hour). Trims include Life, Style, Family, Max, GTX and GTX Max. All models get Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, digital dashboard, keyless go, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a rear-view camera. Style adds 18” alloys, ‘IQ. Light’ LED dipped and main beam headlights and tinted rear windows. The top-spec Max boasts Area View, Side Assist, Travel Assist, DCC, an AR head-up display, a 12” touchscreen and an electric tailgate.

Design

Sleek and elegant, the ID.4 impresses with 18” or 19” alloy wheels, LED headlights, roof bars and a powerful shape. Family and Max models have a panoramic glass roof with the Max also getting a huge 12” touchscreen and an augmented reality head-up display.

Drive

The GTX is the fastest model with a 0-62 mph time of 6.2 seconds and 299PS, but all versions pack a punch with excellent range. The lowest range offered is 213-miles and it’s easy to cruise thanks to Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist.

Practicality

The ID. 4’s spacious back row and 543-litre boot make it a friend of the family, with Max and GTX Max models boasting an electrically-operated tailgate. All versions have Keyless Access and Keyless Go for easy access and starts.

Living with it

With a 5-80% charge taking as little as 38 minutes, the ID. 4 doesn’t do range anxiety. The 77kWh model has a huge range and all versions are sublime to drive. Max models also have Dynamic Chassis Control with adjustable suspension damping.
